Newton's 3rd Law



After learning about Newton's 3rd Law, I can now identify one scientific reason why my favorite boxer, Floyd Mayweather, hand might have been swollen during his fight with Canelo Alvarez. Whenever, a boxer, Floyd Mayweather, lands a punch let's say in his opponents face, as shown above, the opponents face exerts the same amount of force on Floyds hand, which can cause his hand to be swollen or even fractured . The reason his opponents head moves sideways and Floyd's arm does not is because Floyd's entire arm is more massive than his opponents head, causing his opponents face to move because of the applied force. So whenever an object/human moves backwards when two forces are acting on another it is not because of the difference in the magnitude of the forces, but because of the difference in mass of the two objects.

Newton's 1st Law in full effect

Here is a video of Newton's first law in action. Newton's first law states that, "an object in motion remains in motion and an object at rest remains at rest unless a net force acts on it." In this video I am seen knocking over a water dispenser bottle with my foot. The object remained at rest until I applied a net force to it causing it to fall over. While the object was falling over it remained in motion until a net force acted on it. This net force was the force applied by the floor which stopped the water dispenser bottle from falling

GRAVITY

This image shows an apple that was previously attached to a tree falling down to the ground. This image correlates with the concept of gravity. When an apple detaches from a tree the apple will begin to fall to the ground, this is because the force of gravity is acting on it pulling the apple down towards earth.

Impressive Dunk

This is a video of a dunk made by a college basketball player. This video demonstrates a perfect example of Newton's 2nd law which states that, "Forces always act in pairs that are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction". When the basketball player set his feet to dunk he pushed down on the floor with some force then in result the floor exerted the same amount of force on the basketball player causing him to rise off the floor.

Physics in soccer

This images shows a player kicking the ball up and then in comes back down. This is a representation of physics because the  ball increases velocity at the initial kick than decreases and until it reaches v=0m/s which then makes it come back down increases it.s velocity until it reaches the floor or foot.

Position vs. Time Graph

 This graph represents an objects postion at certain time. Since this graph can give us the change in time(x) and the change in position(y) we can find the slope of this graph. The change in time is equal to the t final - t initial and change in position is equal to the x final - x initial. Slope for the position vs. time graph represents the velocity of the graph which is 200cm/s (change in position divided by the change in time). It would have a constant velocity.

Here is an image of a motion map and a velocity graph. The motion map shows the direction the car is traveling in and it also shows the car's velocity increases by  because the car gets father and farther away from each other each time. The velocity graph shows the increasing velocity of the car by time but also the slope gives us the acceleration.

Newtons 2nd Law



This relates to Newton's 2nd law which states that acceleration occurs if there are two unbalanced forces. While the ball is being thrown, still in the pitchers hand, the baseball accelerates because the force applied, by the pitcher, has no opposite horizontal force meaning, there is an unbalanced force which causes the acceleration of the ball. There is also the force of earth pushing down, and the force of the surface in which the ball lies in, hand, pushing up; however, these two forces balance out. Newton's 2nd law really does apply and help explain many things around us. (Note, this description was a description of the ball while it is in the pitchers hand and being pulled back).

Here is physics working it's stuff again. This man is being pushed down by gravity when he reaches his maximum height cause by his applied force. once he lands, the normal force from the ground will hold him up.

Check out physics doing its thing. My friend Ludwin from the MTV show Washington Heights skate boards in a straight line. Gravity and normal force are keeping him leveled to the ground but his applied force is causing him to skate towards us. The friction from the flower will cause him to slow down.
